Innovated procedure for kidney transplant in Britain

The procedure which has become legal in 2006 in Britain (but is much more common in USA), supposes a group of donors and receivers pairs.

With other words, a person wishes to give a kidney to a friend or relative but he can’t because of the incompatible tissue. In this case, he will give the kidney to other person who needs it. Then the friends of this person, who received the kidney, will donate his kidney, to the first person.

But there are more than 2 families involved in this situation. There are many. In this way, peoples can help each other, using this ‘cascade system’.

The case reported by Britain today, were the first which involved a larger number of donors and receivers. That is why is important and represents a big step in kidney transplant medicine.

Until now, in Britain as in more other countries, were involved in transplantation only relatives or friends. But this could be a ‘huge’ limit for the receiver. The ‘cascade system’ gives more chances for everyone.

Let’s hope that more countries will adopt this law for the future, and peoples will understand the importance of being a part of a group of donators – helping others, in fact we are helping us.
